The Darkness of Trauma

Falling into Darkness is the longest and most immersive era within the body of work — a six-year descent shaped by grief, trauma, and the quiet endurance of survival. Following the tragic loss of the artist’s late fiancée, this period reflects not just sadness, but the psychological aftershock that lingered long after the funeral flowers faded.

This was not a sudden collapse, but a gradual erosion. The paintings from this era carry the weight of PTSD — suppressed emotion, internal isolation, and the constant tension between appearing functional and feeling fractured. The work becomes introspective, sometimes restrained, sometimes heavy with atmosphere. Color palettes often lean subdued or shadowed, compositions feel tighter, and figures can appear emotionally distant or suspended in thought. Silence becomes a visual theme.
